work
here's how I got here.
Seventeen-plus years across operations, trust communications, radio, agency strategy, behaviour change communication, photography, independent narrative work, and Recentred Africa.
The job titles changed. I kept what proved useful.
the paperwork mattered
At AMSCO, I learnt documentation, feasibility, and traceability. At Twakutukuza Trust, those systems sat beside patients, partners, volunteers, and the public. What looked like admin to one person could be the thing another person was depending on.
one person listening, everybody else within range
I hosted breakfast at OneFM, then developed sponsorships, promotions, and on-ground activations across Radio Africa Group. Live radio taught timing and address. Commercial execution taught what happens after the clever idea leaves the studio.
then I picked up a camera
I began photographing in 2012 and have traded as Stills by Marcus since 2018, across portraiture, organisational work, documentary assignments, and public life. Making the picture is one decision. What happens to it afterwards is another.
research, positioning and consequence
At Exp Agency, I moved from Brand Experience Designer to Strategy Manager. I later led Strategy and Planning at Creative Y&R. The work joined research, positioning, creative direction, and execution. It also made clear that an idea isn't finished when everybody in the presentation agrees with it.
behaviour change without behavioural wallpaper
A decade of behaviour change communication has included family planning, gender-based violence prevention, nutrition, community engagement, participatory dialogue, radio drama, field-team training, and campaign architecture. The work isn't to make a message sound humane. It's to build from how people actually live and remain answerable to what happens next.
I stopped keeping the work in separate boxes
Independent work brought narrative strategy, research communication, editorial architecture, digital properties, and photography into the same practice, including work with Africa Podfest.
Recentred Africa
As Story Lead at Recentred Africa, I work across participatory research, ethical story practice, creative and editorial direction, photography, and public-interest reporting. I can name my contribution without pretending I made the work alone.
